Jordan Vauvert Yu déclarait dans Forgotten Memories : "my band is always progressing". C'est une phrase que l'on peut mettre au pluriel car elle s'applique aussi à son projet Retreat Neurosis. Le DSBM répétitif à l'extrême est toujours au cœur de son style dans Into the Mist mais quelques changements sont notables : les pistes sont (un tout petit peu) plus variées, sauf "The End" qui pousse le bouchon trop loin de ce côté, et la batterie est mieux intégrée au reste. Yu sait comment retenir notre attention ! Favorite track: Dead Trees.

Einsiedler A great dsbm record. I thoroughly enjoy the slow, repetitive, hypnotic guitar and the pained vocals. I'm going to have to listen to the other records and maybe check out the main project. Favorite track: Dead Trees.

Salbarnus Very melancholic album with really strong, complicated range of emotions. Favorite track: The End.

H.L. RETREAT NEUROSIS stands for pure depressive black metal but with a smooth flow. "Into the mist" is really hypnotic in its monotony with desperate distant screams and repetitive passages. This concept works very well in the first three songs, only the fourth instrumental track repeats the same loop too often for my taste, so I skip it usually. Anyway, this is just the right sound for autumn and the first 30 minutes are definitely worth one or more replays! Favorite track: No Escape.

NONE a opéré un virage dans Where Life Should Be et ça se confirme davantage dans Damp Chill of Life. Le temps des métaphores est révolu : l'humidité froide, c'est celle des larmes qui coulent sur le visage à cause de la dépression. Tout pleure dans cet album : les guitares typées DSBM grésillent, les solos ("The Damp Chill of Life", "It's Painless To Let Go") sont liquides et coulent, les voix prennent à la gorge ; même le piano, étranglé par les sanglots ("Cease"), est aphone. Après un Through Twilight... passable, Mort crée Descending Further into Nothingness sous le patronyme d'Exiled from Light, un album de DSBM lancinant aux atmosphères spectrales bien meilleur. Malgré tout, le démon de la stagnation continue de le harceler : la batterie est le grand point fort mais certains schémas se répètent et, couplés aux riffs minimalistes, ils empêchent certaines pistes de se distinguer l'une de l'autre. Le début est un peu long mais cet album en vaut vraiment la peine ! Jordan Vauvert
